Hey! I just read Chapter 1 again, and Challies has a post about the foreward and preface now. My thoughts on Ch. 1:
I'd like to get some teenagers' ideas/comments on this chapter, as so many are now educated to believe in no absolute truths, i.e., "That's true for her, but not for me...whatever is true to you, is your truth, but it may not be someone else's truth." I see this attitude all the time on daytime television, even just yesterday. Rachael Ray said something like, "If it makes you feel better, go for it," even though it was something that looked terrible and was unhealthy. It's silly to argue with many of today's teenagers because they'll say that there is no right or wrong or there's always a gray area or there's always some excuse for their wrongs...and they prove almost every minute that they DO believe in right and wrong. Just like Lewis was saying. If they didn't believe in right and wrong, there would be nothing to gossip about or get upset about. And we all know how upset we all tend to get.
I just love his style of writing. I am soaking it up.

I would like to point out (I read a biography on Abe Lincoln when I was in high school) that he also believed if he did enough good in his life to be remembered it in some sense would make him immortal.
What a load of . . . . I need to say that it makes sociopathes feel good to kill people. Lewis does a much better job of explaining this than me. LOL.
I absolutely agree with your thoughts on teenagers. I mean - let's face it, Oprah has become most people's spiritual advisor and that's what she preaches! In the words of Casting Crowns: "What if people turned to Jesus and stopped asking Oprah what to do?"
